LAYP HOSTS FREE COMMUNITY BBQ TO SUPPORT FAMILIES THROUGH COST OF LIVING CRISIS

On Saturday, London APSA Youth Project (LAYP) hosted a free community BBQ in Manor Park, offering vital support to local families affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis. Held outside the DH Centre on Church Road, the event saw over 500 families enjoy delicious burgers, wings, milkcakes, and mojitos — all completely free of charge.

The BBQ was more than just a meal; it was a chance for neighbours to come together, children to smile, and struggling families to experience a moment of relief and dignity. As prices soar and food insecurity rises, LAYP’s initiative aimed to provide warmth, unity, and nourishment to a community in need.

The event is part of LAYP’s growing mission to support, uplift, and reconnect communities in Newham. With volunteers, youth workers, and local partners all pitching in, it was a powerful display of grassroots action driven by compassion and community spirit.

For many attendees, it wasn’t just about food — it was about feeling seen, supported, and not forgotten.
